"A decade of excellence in the meeting industry"

Mercy Centre

Purpose of the Project:

Education of slum children ages three to six. The project serves as a head start program for the poorest children in the Bangkok slums. The curriculum includes Thai, English, arithmetic, hygiene, Thai history, folklore, music, dance, singing, sports, and the arts.

Nutrition and health are important elements of the preschool program for many reasons that affect slum children, especially because up to 20% of our first-year preschool students suffer from some degree of malnutrition. All children are given a nutritious lunch with milk, fruit and protein snacks every school day. Children’s weight and height and health are monitored closely – those suffering from malnutrition receive extra care and nutritious snacks and their child development is also monitored closely.

The preschools also serve as the core of our foundation’s outreach programs in slum communities. In this way, we the Centre is able to identify children who suffer abuse at home or need extra attention in their development skills. In some instances, our school outreach has saved children from being trafficked by their parents or guardians. We also bring all the parents and guardians of our children together throughout the year for seminars on child development; financing and budgeting for their children’s education; and HIV/AIDS awareness, education, and compassion in the community.

Zone 9 Mercy Preschool

The Zone 9 Mercy Preschool is one of 30 Mercy Preschools the Human Development Foundation operates throughout the slums of Bangkok. At the moment the school structure is crumbling and the teachers have been forced to close the upstairs classrooms meaning that the children are now learning in overcrowded conditions, doubling up, on the first floor.

Alongside other donors, AsiaCongress has made a cash donation to help rebuild the Zone 9 Preschool to ensure that the pre-school children and future generations can continue their education unhindered.

Next to its cash donation, AsiaCongress has made a commitment to the Mercy Centre to help gain support in other areas of the project by activating AsiaCongress’ wide network of suppliers, clients and partners worldwide in areas as diverse as Nutrition, Attractions and Entertainment, Energy and Rice.
